apaquasi: a Quarto template for good-looking preprints

We write our papers in Quarto, and for APA-style manuscripts the go-to template is the excellent apaquarto by W. Joel Schneider. It handles all the tedious parts (citations, headings, figure and table captions, references) but it produces, by design, a strict APA manuscript. Great for submission, but a bit more formal than it needs to be in (for our own taste).

So we made apaquasi, a quasi-APA fork that keeps all of that machinery but gives the first page a more typeset look: a sidebar with the server, version, peer-review status, licence and keywords, links to the supplementary materials (GitHub, OSF, ...), Open Science badges for open data, materials, code and preregistration, ORCID icons next to author names, a customisable accent colour, optional line numbers, and a two-column body.

Starting a new paper with it is one command, quarto use template DominiqueMakowski/apaquasi, or quarto add DominiqueMakowski/apaquasi for an existing project. It's early days, so feedback and issues are very welcome on the repository!

Reality Bending Lab

Exploring the neuropsychology of reality and its distortions.

The Reality Bending Lab, led by Dominique Makowski at the University of Sussex in Brighton, UK, conducts world-leading research on reality perception, illusions, fake news, AI-beliefs, deception and its links with emotions, cognitive control and the Self. Using recording signals from the body (ECG, EDA…) and the brain (EEG), we analyse data using advanced modelling (Bayesian statistics, chaos theory, computational models) and develop open-source tools to improve neuropsychological science.
